Adelaide trial of intelligent streetlights

LED street lights that automatically dim when not required and harvest light from other sources to save power have been trialled in Adelaide over the past 5 weeks from 16th May 2016. A strip of 64 lights were installed along Pirie Street and Hindmarsh Square in the CBD. One part of the trial that could be improved is to reduce the temperture of the Lights to 3000k or less.

It will also be interesting to see how the glare from the high temperture lights that have been installed is assessed.

At night the lights are set at a lower level where the general area can still be safely seen.

As a pedestrian or vehicle approaches, motion sensors on the side of the lights adjust it to full strength.
